Rock Me Like a Hurricane

Heavens no, the PUNK scene!?
Well alack alack, the black and laced filled stereotype came, saw, and conquered this past year. Women fainted, children were kept indoors, and men attempted to chase out the look with pitchforks and knives. Unfortunately, the welcome mat was dirtied, and punk was here to stay. While it's slowly heading back out of style, some designers have made it forever immortalized* in the form of Doc Martens - the epitome of punk.

*That is... if we completely disregard the Nineties. Please, PLEASE let us disregard the nineties.

Best Cinematography '67

Not going to lie, I think that I've found a new favourite movie. It's pretty much fabulous, and words don't even begin to describe.
Bonnie and Clyde - 1967.
Dunaway and Beatty.
Oscars.

'Bonnie Parker: You're good!
Clyde Barrow: I ain't good. I'm the best!
Bonnie Parker: And modest!'

'Clyde Barrow: This here's Miss Bonnie Parker. I'm Clyde Barrow. We rob banks.'

'Bonnie Parker: I don't have no mama. No family either.
Clyde Barrow: Hey, I'm your family.
Bonnie Parker: You know what, when we started out, I thought we was really goin' somewhere. This is it. We're just goin', huh?
Clyde Barrow: I love you.'

Love from the Sun

Love from the Sun

For a summery day there is red and blue.
Perhaps for you
There are others too?

Regardless of that, the weather is hot.
Of course, why not...
Find a shady spot.

A book in hand, worth two in the bush.
A spoken 'Shoosh',
A gentle push.

Nighttimes skies
For youthful eyes.
Frosty, minty, lemonade surprise.

Corresponding Sweetness

The Orange
by: Charles Lamb

The month was June, the day was hot,
And Philip had an orange got,
The fruit was fragrant, tempting, bright,
Refreshing to the smell and sight;
Not of that puny size which calls
Poor customers to common stalls,
But large and massy, full of juice,
As any Lima can produce.
The liquor would, if squeezëd out,
Have filled a tumbler—thereabout.

A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian

As an avid reader I felt that it was due time to visit my local library. My bookshelves overflow with novellas, and upon entering my room one must side step around anthologies, biographies, and the likes to find a place to stand. Though I have books in abundance, one tends to grow tired of their own collection. So on a recent Saturday morning I packed a bag, wore sensible shoes, and ventured into the outside world. Which, trust me, is not a normal occurrence pour moi. Sweltering heat almost caused me to turn back, as I was already dripping in perspiration. 'Onward', I told myself, having not gotten farther than the front azaleas. In truth I dread public outings, and the substantial heat was just one excuse I attempted to stay at home. Listening to music [but holding awfully tight to my player, as I was terrified someone would attempt to steal it], I participated in vehement arguments with myself as to whether or not to head home. Eventually, I arrived at my [thankfully air conditioned] destination. Thorough perusing of the shelves took quite awhile, and many of the books I was seeking were not to be found. [What sort of Canadian library owns no Wayson Choi books?] After attempting to strike a up a conversation with a librarian -who instead exchanged blank looks with a co-worker- I was forced to keep looking.
Eventually I left, my bag seven books and four movies heavier. Good bye television, hello literacy.

I'm posting as much as I can now... I've only finished two books and it's Sunday. It has almost inspired me to not go on the computer for two weeks. It'll probably take a few more library visits and a lot more books to carry out though.

Fanciful

Faces in the Fire
by: Lewis Carroll

The night creeps onward, sad and slow:
In these red embers' dying glow
The forms of Fancy come and go.

An island-farm — broad seas of corn
Stirred by the wandering breath of morn —
The happy spot where I was born.

The picture fadeth in its place:
Amid the glow I seem to trace
The shifting semblance of a face.

'Tis now a little childish form —
Red lips for kisses pouted warm —
And elf-locks tangled in the storm.

'Tis now a grave and gentle maid,
At her own beauty half afraid,
Shrinking, and willing to be stayed.

Oh, Time was young, and Life was warm,
When first I saw that fairy-form,
Her dark hair tossing in the storm.

And fast and free these pulses played,
When last I met that gentle maid —
When last her hand in mine was laid.

Those locks of jet are turned to gray,
And she is strange and far away
That might have been mine own to-day —

That might have been mine own, my dear,
Through many and many a happy year —
That might have sat beside me here.

Ay, changeless through the changing scene,
The ghostly whisper rings between,
The dark refrain of „might have been“.

The race is o'er I might have run:
The deeds are past I might have done;
And sere the wreath I might have won.

Sunk is the last faint flickering blaze:
The vision of departed days
Is vanished even as I gaze.

The pictures, with their ruddy light,
Are changed to dust and ashes white,
And I am left alone with night.

'And suddenly I thought: this is what it means to make a movie in Sweden.'

I'm currently reading a compilation of four screenplays by Ingmar Bergman; Smiles of a Summer Night [movie photos shown here], The Seventh Seal, Wild Strawberries, and The Magician.
So far it's fabulous. I almost liked his introduction more than some of the scripts.

'The first film I had was nine feet long and brown in colour. It showed a girl lying asleepin a meadow, who woke up and stretched out her arms, then disappeared to the right. That was all there was to it.'
-Ingmar Bergman

Project Runaway

Once upon a time there was a girl who frequented Value Village, baked inappropriately shaped cookies with her friends, and made collages. While this may seem like the average young female to you, this chickie's a little different. To the passerby she may look as if she reads vampire fan fiction, shops at Abercrombie, and spews word vomit phrases such as 'prolly', and 'wheels'. That is not the case. The girl reads le Carre, wears clothing she's cut or drawn on, and often uses the word ' extemporaneous' in daily conversation. Here is a glimpse of the girl's to do list.

1) Get a sewing machine.

2) Learn to sew.
3) Take on fabulous sewing projects.

[Mainly this.]

It is far too beautiful to be left as a pattern.
I will have to learn to sew to make this ingenious creation.

When I was a kid, I wanted to be John Lennon.

Easy there kiddos, these are the best days of your lives. Slow down, shut up, and take it all in. Parental units will deplore you, peers will conform you, and society will deform you. Don't stress little cliches, you'll have a life outside of this cinder-blocked hell. Chalk dust does nothing for the complexion, but smog filled city air does. The people you meet shape who you are. Breakfast Club or not, we all must ingest this public education sometime.
